The life of a PR Mama can be crazy. Like, really, really crazy. For example…
5:30 a.m. – Wake up, finish writing project to meet (yesterday’s) deadline
6:30 a.m. – Drag one kid out of bed (other kid wakes up on his own), get kids ready for school, check backpacks, review homework, tell big kids to be quiet so little one doesn’t wake up, apply extra eye make-up to camouflage sleep-deprivation, write notes for Miss Ana (nanny), secretly check kids’ lunch bags for edible contents (it’s TJ’s job to pack kid lunches)
7:00 a.m. – Out the door to make 8:15 a.m. call time at Good Day LA, Jack and Razor helmets in tow, left intended to-go coffee mug inside microwave, dang!
7:02 a.m. – Call TJ at home for traffic counseling… PCH to the 10 or the 101 to the 405?… PCH it is
7:30 a.m. – Stuck on Malibu Canyon Road, not even past Mulholland Drive yet, freaking out about said call time, Jack, “Are we almost there?”
7:35 a.m. – Finally pass Mulholland Drive to see CHP cars next to motorcyle accident, sad
8:00 a.m. – Still driving, media train backseat Jack for his first TV appearance
8:25 a.m. – Arrive at FOX/Good Day LA studios in West LA, wait in lobby with Dr. Drew, prep for live segment, chit-chat with producer, host, studio crew
9:30 a.m. – We’re live!, watch segment unfold from behind the camera, dodge big cameras and cables while taking behind-the-scene photos
9:40 a.m. – Thanking/schmoozing hosts and producer, giving away demo products for a promise of more coverage; gave Jack a high-five (he did awesome!)
10:00 a.m. – Back in car, Jack is starving, scrounge out a bag of crackers from my purse, drive past a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and wish so much I had time to stop for an Iced Blended, need major caffeine kick
10:30 a.m. – Arrive at kids’ school; check-in Jack, answer school secretary’s question “Why was Jack late this morning? Did he have a doctor’s appointment?”, “No, he was on TV this morning.”
10:35 a.m. – Enter Sophia’s Kindergarten class holiday party, exhale, smile, help kids “ice fish” for construction paper fish, pass out healthy party snacks (celery, carrot, apple slice, cracker… seriously), digress thinking about the legit school parties I grew up with and wonder who calls this party food, pick up trash and wipe down tables
11:20 a.m. – In the car again, taking Sophia home from school
11:35 a.m. – At home, gave Olivia big hugs and kisses, chatted with Miss Ana, sat down at my computer, watched the Good Day LA segment that was already posted on their web site, distributed link, posted on social network channels, sent follow-up e-mail to producer.
And that was all before noon.
Yes, it’s a crazy world. But it’s my world.
